Do You Have An Omega 3 Deficiency?

If you are a typical adult then you most likely have an Omega 3 deficiency. You may not even realize that your body is lacking this very essential group of fatty acids.

Instead what you may find is that you lack energy, feel stiff and sore, have higher cholesterol and triglycerides, and generally feel less healthy than you did when you were younger.

As an essential fatty acid Omega 3 cannot be created by the body. This means we have to eat foods that are rich in this good fat.

Unfortunately, these foods are not in the typical diet. The best forms of Omega 3 fatty acids are found in krill, fish, whole grains, some nuts and seeds and in animal products such as organic beef and free range eggs.

To get enough Omega 3 in the diet through food sources alone is a difficult task.

The recommended daily allowance of Omega 3 fatty acids is 1.6 grams per day for a man and about 1.1 grams a day for a woman.

This means people would need to consume three to four ounces of fish every day to get the amount that they need.

For specific health issues, such as lowering cholesterol and improving heart health, the requirement jumps up to 2-4 grams per day.

Signs Of An Omega 3 Deficiency

While more people who have an Omega 3 deficiency do not have all of these, these are common signs that there is an issue:

  1. Rough skin
  2. Dry ‘bumpy’ skin
  3. Dry, dull hair
  4. Dandruff
  5. Brittle nails
  6. Excessive thirst
  7. Frequent urination
  8. Attention problems
  9. Poor concentration
  10. Memory

Most these signs of a deficiency of Omega 3 are blamed on something else.  This sometimes makes it difficult for people to understand.

However, when they start taking a supplement and experience Omega 3 benefits they realize what they were missing.

The most common health problems that are improved with a krill oil supplement include:

  • Increased daily energy
  • Increased mental focus
  • Decrease in confusion and inattention
  • Increased levels of good cholesterol
  • Decreased levels of bad cholesterol
  • Lower blood fats (triglycerides)

In addition research has shown that people with current health conditions can also benefit from taking daily Omega 3 supplements.

Health conditions that can be potentially helped by adding Omega 3 in the diet include:

  • Breast, prostrate and colon cancer
  • Decreased risk of atherosclerosis
  • Decreased risk of heart attack and stroke
  • Better immune response in the body
  • Lower levels of inflammation
  • Decreasing many neurological problems

A simple daily dose of a high quality krill oil is all that is needed. With almost no risk of side effects or problems it is a great option.

Always talk to your doctor before starting a supplement just to be sure.

Those patients that change their Omega 3 deficiency by taking a high quality supplement also report a better mental outlook.

This increase in quality of life in turn helps with staying on track with treatments and seeing a positive future.
