Coconut Oil Treatment for Hair

Coconut Oil Treatment for Hair

If you have never used a coconut oil treatment for hair restoration and health, you will be amazed at the results.  From decreasing split ends and broken hairs to combatting frizz and moisturizing your scalp, there are many reasons to treat your hair to a little coconut oil.

Polynesian women have been using extra-virgin coconut oil as a standard beauty product for years, and their secret is finally catching on in other areas of the world.

While this is often considered a natural remedy for dry and fizzy hair, coconut oil can strengthen, moisturize and nourish healthy hair as well.

The Fastest Coconut Oil Hair Treatment

If you have frizzy hair or just want to add a bit of shine to your locks, you don’t need to go through an elaborate hot oil treatment. Put a bit of coconut oil in your palm, and then rub your hands together to warm it up. This will put the oil into a liquid state, allowing you to quickly coat your hair with the oil.

A little goes a long way when using a coconut oil treatment for hair.  If you coat your hair with too much, you’ll spend a long time trying to wash it out and may suffer negative consequences.

For instance, some people claim that their hair fell out or that their scalps became overly greasy after using coconut oil.

This may occur due to underlying medical conditions or perhaps deficiencies in the hair, but it may also happen due to overuse of the oil. To make sure that this doesn’t happen to you, do a test run with a small section of your hair.

If it feels silky and looks shiny, a small amount of coconut oil may do your hair good. This is the result that the majority of coconut oil users will experience.

Hot Coconut Oil Treatment for Hair

You may see some blogs and websites advising you to put the coconut oil in the microwave, but that isn’t necessary. This oil melts quickly with just a little body heat, and you can get that with your hands and your scalp.

Take a small amount of oil and start rubbing it in your hair. It will naturally melt as you work it through your tresses.

If you have long or thick hair, you will need a healthy amount of oil for a good coating. It’s still best to work with small amounts so that you don’t overuse the product.

You don’t need a super thick layer of oil to get the maximum results, so stick to a light coating.

Once your hair is saturated, clip it in a bun on the top of your head and cover it with a shower cap. If you want the true hot oil treatment, run a hair dryer over the shower cap. The heat will open your hair cuticles for deeper penetration.

You will see some benefits by allowing the oil to sit in your hair for just 15 or 20 minutes, but better results will come if you allow it to soak into your hair for at least 30 minutes. If your hair is extremely dry, frizzy or damaged, you may benefit from letting it soak for an hour.

For any coconut oil treatment for hair,  start by purchasing extra-virgin coconut oil. You don’t want to go with the cheapest oil that you can find because purity and potency are important.

Look for the “extra virgin” label, and organic extra-virgin is even better. You’re still likely to pay less than you would for a brand-name hot oil treatment.

There are also many other uses for coconut oil in your beauty regime and around the house, so you might want to invest in a large container of oil while you’re shopping.
