Coconut oil lip balm is gaining popularity because of its awesome benefits and you can even make it yourself.
Coconut oil has taken the health and fitness industry by storm.
It’s a great way to add flavor to stir fry and many other healthy dishes, and it’s also a nourishing, hydrating treat for your hair and skin.
If you want luscious lips that are always soft and kissable, learning to make your own coconut oil lip balm is a good DIY project for the upcoming weekend.
There is a growing body of scientific research that supports the amazing health benefits of coconut oil.
While it is 90-100% fat and contains a lot of saturated fat that is associated with heart disease, studies have shown that it’s less likely to clog your arteries than other saturated fats.
In fact, populations that consume a lot of coconuts on a daily basis have extremely low rates of cardiovascular disease.
The secret to these health benefits is the structure of the fat.
Coconut oil is composed of medium-chain triglycerides, which are shorter than the triglycerides found in other saturated fats.
It’s also free of cholesterol. These fats are absorbed into the body faster than others, and then they make their way to the liver.
The liver then uses the fat to supply energy to sustain your activity level, which is why many people experience higher energy levels when consuming coconut oil on a routine basis.
You know the health benefits of coconut oil for your heart now, but what about your lips?
Many people use it as a lip balm because it leaves the skin soft and moist.
Take a quick look at the proven benefits of coconut oil for the skin on all areas of your body:
Many people apply coconut oil directly to their skin to gain these benefits, but it’s not easy to do that with your lips.
Keep reading to see how you can make your own coconut oil lip balm at home.
Are you ready to apply those skin benefits directly to your lips?
We found some recipes that are easy to create and apply.
Use a double boiler to melt 3 tablespoons of coconut oil and 2 tablespoons of beeswax pastilles together.
If you don’t have a double boiler, use up to two inches of boiling water in a small saucepan.
After removing the mixture from the heat, stir in the following ingredients:
Secure empty lip balm tubes in an upright position and pour in the coconut oil mixture.
Wait for the lip balm to set before placing the lids on each tube. Your lip balm is ready to use immediately.
The Coconut Mama also has a vegan-friendly coconut lip balm recipe that’s fast and easy to make.
Place 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of carnauba wax in a double boiler.
Heat it on low until the ingredients blend together smoothly.
Pour directly into your empty lip balm tubes and allow it to set before sealing or using.
Place 2 tablespoons of cocoa butter, 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and 2 tablespoons of beeswax to a mason jar or glass measuring cup.
You can substitute the cocoa butter for mango butter if you prefer.
Submerge the bottom of the glass jar or cup into the boiling water of a double boiler or saucepan with up to two inches of water.
Check frequently and remove from heat when the mixture has smoothly melted together.
Add 2 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract to the mixture before filling your empty lip balm containers with the mix.
Allow it to completely dry before placing the lid on each tube or applying directly to your lips.
